Possibilities for Individual Spheres of Influence

The appendix to the Stern Report[50] lists the shares of different economic areas in global warming. By comparing these economic areas with the possibilities for individual influence, the following simple potentials become apparent for the reduction of climate strain.

Around 30 % direct individual spheres of influence

Direct individual influences can be achieved above all by increases in efficiency, use of synergies, prudence and economizing.

  • 19 % Buildings (heating, equipment, lighting)
  • 06 % Individual transportation (motorcycles, cars)
  • 02 % Air travel (in country and foreign flights)
  • 03 % Disposal

(The share of air travel in global warming has increased considerably in comparison with the data fundamentals used in the Stern Report.)

Around 35 % indirect individual spheres of influence

Indirect individual influences can above all be achieved by the avoidance of certain products and / or the use of local products:

  • 03 % Truck transportation (influence through the purchase of local products)
  • 02 % Petrochemistry
  • 08 % Agriculture (fertilizing, cattle farming)
  • 22 % Land use (clearings, wood products)

Around 07 % barely individual spheres of influence

The effects of individual influence are low. Political intervention for the optimization of forestry and agricultural methods would be sensible:

  • 06 % Deforestation
  • 01 % Rice cultivation

Around 24 % direct political spheres of influence

Kinds of sphere:

  • 01 % Ship transportation
  • 20 % Industry (iron/steel, non-ferrous metal, minerals, energy supply, others)
  • 03 % Agriculture (others)

Around 04 % Miscellaneous
